Millisle is a small seaside village on the Ards Peninsula, a couple of miles south of Donaghadee. Since the 1950s, Millisle has been a popular spot for families wishing to enjoy a quiet day out on the beach, away from the crowds in the nearby resort of Bangor. It's also a longtime favourite with holiday-makers, especially campers and caravanners, who relish the tranquillity and beautiful coastal scenery of the village, with views over to Scotland and the Isle of Man on a clear day. Over the years, Millisle has changed little, although its award-winning, sandy beach now provides safe swimming at a specially created seawater lagoon with a jetty, slipways and a paddling pool. Fishing, canoeing and windsurfing are the most typical outdoor activities, while for children, there's a permanent fairground and a main street filled with small shops selling all the traditional seaside treats and toys. Just outside the village is Ballycopeland Windmill, the last surviving windmill in County Down, and the only one in the whole of Northern Ireland that's in working order. Millisle is ideally placed for exploring the towns, beaches, buildings and delightful countryside of the Ards Peninsula and Strangford Lough - a marine nature reserve.
