Kinnegad is a pleasant riverside town, long popular with travellers - is situated in the far east of Westmeath, at the border with County Meath. The town's location at the junction of the N6 and the N4, and its proximity to the recently opened M4 motorway, means that it acts as an excellent base for exploring various parts of Ireland. Dublin is less than an hour's drive along the M4, and many people who work there commute from towns such as Kinnegad. The town is surrounded by peaceful scenery, with numerous cows and sheep grazing in rich pastures, and the county's beautiful lakes, rivers and canals lie just beyond, waiting to be enjoyed by nature-lovers and by all those interested in fishing, cruising, watersports and riding. Golfers staying in Kinnegad will find a course just ten minutes away in Mullingar, a historic market town with a greyhound racecourse. Four miles from Mullingar is Belvedere House, an 18th Century hunting lodge whose wonderful gardens and parkland include woodland and lakeside walks. Visitors to Kinnegad will also want to discover the town of Athlone and its magnificent Norman castle, within half an hour's drive, before returning to sample the hospitality of the local restaurants and pubs
