| Events in Edgware
Edgware is a residential suburb in north London with a real community atmosphere and a distinct, pleasant character. It's only twenty minutes from central London by public transport, and it's ideal for drivers, linking easily to the M1 and the M25. A former market town, Edgware is popular with home-buyers, featuring some very attractive streets with striking semi-detached and detached houses, and the Broadwalk shopping centre and tube station are similarly easy on the eye. In recent years, a number of newly opened coffee houses, cafés and restaurants have added a more contemporary appeal to Edgware, which also boasts some intriguing specialist shops. The area is home to a large Jewish community, which, interestingly, has set up its own Eruv - a line marking out a territory inside which Orthodox Jews may carry out activities otherwise forbidden on the Sabbath. Edgware has connections to the German composer Handel, who lived here in the early 1700s at the country estate of his employer, the Duke of Chandos. An organ played by Handel and recently restored takes pride of place at the nearby St Lawrence Whitchurch church, which also features wall and ceiling paintings by Antonio Bellucci, Louis Laguerre and Francesco Sleter.
