Southgate is a pleasant north-London suburb with plenty of green spaces and some very attractive housing. This includes an abundance of1930s terraces and semis, although the most sought-after area is the older Lakes Estate, which is filled with grand Edwardian residences, many converted into flats. One of Southgate's most recognisable buildings is its circular tube station. From here, central London is 25 minutes away. Travel is also easy for motorists, being close to the M25 and North Circular Road. Southgate itself has a young population of college students and a lively atmosphere around its bars, pubs and restaurants. Enfield, nearby, has a wide range of nightlife to explore. Southgate has some homegrown culture to be proud of including its own symphony orchestra, which plays concerts around the local area. The Chicken Shed Theatre Company, meanwhile, has built up a fine reputation performing at home and at esteemed venues such as the Royal Albert Hall and Sadler's Wells. There are several fitness centres in and around Southgate, including a leisure centre with five pools, a gym, indoor sports and outdoor pitches. Sporting facilities are also provided at the award-winning Grovelands Park and lake. Golfers will find six courses close to Southgate.
