| Events in Tower Bridge
Tower Bridge is one of the most recognisable buildings in the world and a working bridge that still opens up several times a day for river traffic to pass below. The bridge, standing since 1894, hosts a permanent exhibition allowing visitors to explore the twin towers and enjoy wonderful views from the high walkways. At the bridge's northern end is another world-class attraction, the Tower of London, complete with legendary beefeaters and ravens. This is a complex of buildings ranged around the original White Tower, dating back to the 1080s. The Tower of London was by turns a fortress, a palace and a prison, and since 1303, it has been home to the Crown Jewels. Across the river is the floating museum HMS Belfast, moored beside City Hall - an unmistakeable, leaning, glass structure opened in 2002. Also in this area is The Scoop at More London, an outdoor, sunken amphitheatre which presents free music, films and theatre in summer, and the Design Museum, celebrating fashion, architecture and home furnishings. It's in a historic warehouse area called Shad Thames, or Butler's Wharf, which is filled with bustling shops, cafés, bars and restaurants. St Katharine Docks nearby have similarly regenerated.
