| Events in West Norwood
The residential suburb of West Norwood, in south London, is a good bet for anyone who enjoys the outdoors. There are many open spaces and sporting opportunities around this way, although visitors can quickly reach the buzzing markets and nightlife of Brixton, just a short distance to the north, if they fancy a livelier time. One of the district's most popular destinations is the 33-acre West Norwood Park, which was once part of the Great North Wood. The park lies on high ground offering spectacular views over south London as well as a wildlife area, an all-weather games court, a paddling pool and a children's play area. Peabody Hill Wood and Knights Hill Wood Nature Reserve are also favourite spots, as is West Norwood Cemetery - one of London's great Victorian burial grounds, with lots of green space, 64 listed monuments and some striking architecture attending tombs in the Greek area. Brockwell Park is within walking distance of West Norwood, and the nearby Dulwich & Sydenham Hill golf club welcomes visitors on weekdays. Culture fans should check the listings for the South London Theatre, which aims to present more than twenty shows a year in what was West Norwood's first fire station.
