Nettlecombe is set in rural Dorset about five miles North East of Bridport. It is a small hamlet hidden away right in the heart of Thomas Hardy country, in the charming Dorset countryside, featuring lovely old stone cottages. It is a good location to use as a base for visiting many local attractions. For spectacular views of the coastline and Dorset countryside, you can walk from Nettlecombe and go on to the famous Ancient Roman Hill Fort, Eggardon Hill. For shopping there is the nearby small market town of Bridport, which has local Farmers Markets as well as the twice weekly street market with some fine antique stalls. Another picture postcard village with a beautiful Norman Church, Powerstock, is just half a mile away, providing another walking opportunity. You can stay in the beautiful 16th century Marquis of Lorne Inn in the village. The inn has a fine restaurant and has won many awards. If you are interested in ancient history, you can visit nearby Nettlecombe Tout, an Iron Age Fort located on the end of the spur known as Nettlecombe Tout. The area is less than half a mile to the east of the Dorsetshire Gap and is laced with many footpaths.
