Belstone is a charming village on the edge of Dartmoor in Devon, home to just over 250 people. The area beckons to walkers and cyclists as the surrounding countryside is stunning. The village has pretty cottages that ensure Artists reach for another brush, complete with village green, Stocks and a church dating back to 1260. Cattle and Sheep are often seen around the village, and Horse Riding Stables invite the chance to saddle up.
The market Town of Okehampton close by has an intriguing castle set high above a fast flowing river, Okehampton Castle built in Norman times conjures thoughts of Damsels and knights on horseback, although they have long since gone. Or how about Castle Drogo built centuries later and shares many treasures including fine paintings, furniture, and even the servants quarters
Ancient times are not forgotten with Nine Maidens Stone Circle which are the remains of an ancient Bronze Age Burial Chamber, or there is always Spinsters Rock Neolithic Burial Chamber. Mother Nature’s beauty dazzles at Tavy Cleave, or possibly the crashing sound of a waterfall at Lydford Gorge is one invitation definitely to be accepted, why not enjoy a pic nic in the Orchard or Pixie Glen…..
