Cockwood Harbour is a small picturesque harbour which is positioned on the Exe River, in the county of Devon, South West England. This natural harbour with its hillside backdrop is tidal, and at low tide exposes mud flats; boats enter the harbour under two railway arches which are the legacy of Isambard Kingdom Brunel where steam trains can still be seen today. The picture perfect village of Cockwood has pretty cottages, and houses which rise gently around the harbour which once saw fishermen and smugglers busy at work here, today though the Harbour is enjoyed by colourful boats, and the Swans and Geese who flock here. There is a large Village Green, local shops nearby selling that essential purchase, and two fabulous Inns offering a warm welcome, one of which dates as far back as 450 years which continues to look after it's visitors. Walkers will enjoy a stroll along the harbour wall or there is always the South West Coastal Path which passes through here, there is a good choice of places to stay from cottages to B&B's, and as it's set between the village of Starcross and Dawlish its perfectly placed for those who are tempted to linger.
