Quebec is an old mining village in County Durham in the North East of England, the Roman Road ‘Dere Street’ passes through the village on it’s way to Hadrian’s Wall and was a crucial link in centuries past. There’s a chance to blow away the cobwebs with delightful walks along the Lanchester Valley Railway Path where the wildlife, herbs and wild flowers won’t fail to please. Or if the thought of wandering around a museum with intriguing exhibits appeals, take a look at the Light Infantry Museum where the evocative story is retold through poignant exhibits. Maybe Beamish Open Air Museum will tick every box, this exciting Museum is a living history of life from the 1820’s and 1913. It’s possible to ride a tram or a horse drawn bus, see what life was really like in a Colliery Village or a Market Town, visitors are forgiven for thinking they have travelled back in time. Artists linger as they capture the majestic architecture of Durham Castle and Durham Cathedral opposite, whose imposing Norman architecture dominates the skyline, the energetic can climb the 325 steps to the Tower for amazing views. Younger visitors are not forgotten at Diggerland where they can ride in a Mini Tractor or even drive a JCB.
