High Grantley is an attractive North Yorkshire village on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, surrounded by a green tapestry of countryside that walkers enjoy timelessly yet is only five miles from the Cathedral City of Ripon. Nearby is 12th Century Fountains Abbey whose majestic architecture towers above beautiful grounds in the valley of the River Skell, see the Elizabethan Mansion of Fountains Hall, and the stunning Studley Royal Water Garden that ensures visitors pause as the breath stealing views of the lakes unfold. Museum lovers are spoilt for choice with the Workhouse Museum in Allhallowgate, whose thought provoking exhibits tell a spell binding tale that's never forgotten, or perhaps the House Of Correction Museum will deter any would be villains as it's exhibits include the true stories of convicts that were transported to Australia. If shopping is desired there is a vast array in Ripon or maybe Darley Mill Centre will be first choice. For a journey into an ethereal world, descend the steps that lead into Stump Cross Caverns where the underground mysteries of stalactites and stalagmites will bewitch all who gaze.
