Longniddry is a quiet village on the East Lothian coast in Scotland situated 12 miles east of Edinburgh. From the 16th century until 1924 Lonniddry had been a coal-mining village with weaving as its other main industry. In 1916 the village was developed by the Scottish Veterans’ Garden Cities Association. Surrounded by panoramic sea-side views and countryside Longniddry is a popular tourist destination and an ideal base for touring Edinburgh and the Lothians. The village has holiday accommodation, a selection of shops and amenities, a community centre and places to eat out. Historically interesting features include Longniddry House dating from the early 18th century and the Golf Club House which was built in1929. Gosford House was built c1790 designed by Robert Adam and home to the Earl of Wemyss, during World War II the house was occupied by the army, it was restored in 1987 and used in 2000 for filming the movie ‘House of Mirth’ based on a novel by Edith Wharton.. There are good transport links into the city of Edinburgh both by road and rail, the railway station was built in 1845 and lies on the North Berwick to Edinburgh line. There is a beautiful golden sand beach with excellent walks at Longniddry Bents; running parallel with the beach is the 18-hole golf course at Links Road.
