West Calder is an attractive village on the banks of the West Calder Burn, in West Lothian, Scotland, home to over five thousand people. There is a wide choice of pubs, shops, restaurants and bars to discover, and an abundance of mellow coloured stone buildings which date back to a different era. The area has a fascinating history from the Romans who settled nearby, to mining for Oil Shale which played a pivotal role when it reached its height in the 19th and 20th Centuries, remnants of which may be seen with the Five Sisters which reach skywards right next to the Westwood Oil Shale Works.
