The Saxon (in origin) town of Bagshot is a perfect base for holidays, being just a stone‚s throw away from the great lakes, waterfall and totem pole of Virginia Water, Ascot racecourse, and Windsor with its ancient Royal castle and deer park. Bagshot has its own connections with Royalty, with the grade II listed Tudor-gothic mansion in Bagshot Park being home to Prince Edward. Despite being on the A30 intersection with the A322, and near the M3 motorway, the villagers of Bagshot enjoy a quiet, peaceful existence with no crime rate to speak of. Four churches serve the parish, including St.Anne‚s, a lovely example of Victorian neo-gothic architecture. During the 18th century Bagshot was a well known stopping point on the main coaching road between London and the West of the country, with most of the town‚s trade coming from the many inns providing stabling and even horse swapping services to thousands of stage coaches. Bagshot‚s two main streets are full of real ale inns and food outlets so perfect for an evening out. Of the inns remaining from medieval times, the Three Mariners is worth a visit as it still retains some of the original features from when it was a coaching inn.
