Newcastle Emlyn is a busy Market town with an intriguing history, it's perfectly placed on the Teifi River in the county of Carmarthenshire in Wales, home to over nine hundred people. The old stone bridge that spans the river links Adpa with the town of Emlyn Newcastle where there is always the chance to explore cluttered antique shops, delightful craft and book shops that silently promise an interesting tale. The town dates back many centuries and the 13th Century castle ruins stand high on a hill for all to see, it was the only stone castle that was built in this area of Wales, and is where battles have been bravely fought, when Oliver Cromwell arrived and seized the castle during the Civil War a bloody battle ensued resulting in the castle's demise as it was blown up with gun powder, which left the ruins seen today silhouetted against the skyline. Farming, and agriculture has played it's part and the town became an important link with Drovers, when cattle and pigs were assembled here before their onward journey on this Drovers route, today visitors to this pocket of history with it's narrow streets lined with a jumble of buildings spanning the chapters of time uncover a dazzling gem where the Welsh word is still proudly uttered.
