Amroth is a pretty coastal village positioned on the tip of Pembrokeshire in the western reaches of Wales. It dates back many centuries although the mining of coal and anthracite played an important role which led to the growth of the village, and an increase in the population right up until the 19th Century when mining finally ceased. Today's visitors can enjoy the fabulous sandy beach which unveils a link with the past at low tide, when the remains of a petrified forest which was drowned seven thousand years ago is revealed.
The Pembrokeshire Coastal Path journeys for 186 miles and either starts, or finishes here and travels through stunning wooded valleys and countryside which surrounds the village, there are shops catering for that essential purchase, restaurants and cafes, together with pubs and a 16th Century Inn which continues to offer a warm welcome. The Norman's left their mark with the ruins of a castle which can still be seen today, together with an impressive church dedicated to St Elidyr which was once gifted to the Knights of St John in 1150. For those visitors tempted to stay there is a good choice of cottages, B&B's, campsites and Caravan Park, and a range of hotels nearby.
