Gwbert-on-Sea lies approximately two miles north of Cardigan on the B4548. Some say it has now become a suburb of Cardigan itself, but visitors are often inspired to hike along the cliffs and enjoy panoramic views over the Teifi estuary. This is definitely a place for watersports enthusiasts who want to be away from the more crowded areas: Kitesurfers and sandbuggy owners love the beach and it is possible to windsurf here during hightides. There is a sailing club located at the mouth of the estuary but if you are boating don’t be tempted to visit Cardigan Island. This is a nature reserve inhabited only by wild Soay sheep and there are no unauthorised landings. Better to be a landlubber, stay on the mainland and visit Cardigan Island Coastal Farm Park where overlooking the bay, you can observe seals and dolphins at play or get closer to the domestic and exotic animals the park itself. If it happens to rain you can still keep a fitness routine - stay at the Gwbert Hotel, refurbished in 2005, this hosts the Flat Rock Bistro and has a small gym, a sauna and a six seater jacuzzi for relaxation after all this activity.
