In the South West corner of Shropshire, close to the border with Wales and nestling in the heart of the South Shropshire Hills is the village of Lydbury North. Located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty the village is just south of Bishops Castle and is relatively convenient for Shrewsbury and Ludlow. The reason that people visit though is more to do with its location than its convenience to these larger towns, the scenic walks through the surrounding countryside, or if you prefer something a little less strenuous then you can always visit Walcot Hall, this is ideal for a gentle stroll and overlooks the village. The former home of Clive of India the gardens and hall providing a glimpse into history, set in around 30 acres there are fishponds, lake and arboretum to appreciate and enjoy. Back in the village though a must see is the church which was founded in the 12th century – the church of St Michael and All Angels is unusual as it is an Anglican Church with a Roman Catholic Chapel, but its probably better known for its clock which has just one hand – a feature of clocks until around 1680 when they acquired the minute hand as well. This feature is a rarity nowadays however the church at Bishops Castle also boasts the same feature.
