Born 1910. Died 1993 - Roman Catholic Archbishop and cardinal.

Ordained as a priest in 1935. Appointed Archbishop of St Andrews and Edinburgh in 1951. Named cardinal to Pope Paul VI in 1969 and was instrumental in bring Pope John Paul II to Scotland.
