Studied at Newnham College, Cambridge. Worked as an editorial assistant and translator before writing her first book, Charcuterie and French Pork Cookery (1967). Subsequent books included English Food (1974), Jane Grigsonís Vegetable Book (1978) and Jane Grigsonís Fruit Book (1982). Married to the poet Geoffrey Grigson.
