Edward, Duke of Kent
- Favourite Briton.

Born in Victoria, London
Born on 2nd of November 1767
Died on 23rd of January 1820

Edward was the fourth son of George III. He trained for military service in Germany and Switzerland, then had a not unblemished career in the army in Gibraltar (where he was later Governor), the West Indies and Canada, where he lived for nearly a decade. His place in history, however, comes mainly as the father of the future Queen Victoria, a hastily contracted marriage in the summer of 1818 when he was 50 and the succession was looking uncertain resulting in the birth the following May of Princess Alexandrina Victoria of Kent. Job done, Edward died of pneumonia in January 1820.
