The life of Nicholas Winton (born Nicholas Wertheim) was very long (he lived to 106), very full, and sometimes surprising from a wealthy background and a banker and stockbroker, he was a strong socialist, for example. Winton will be remembered for his actions in the Kindertransport programme that saved thousands of Jewish children from the Nazis Winton is personally credited with saving 669Czech children, hectoring Dutch officials, forging British documents, arranging homes and financial guarantees... He was very belatedly knighted in 2002 for his work.
