Scotland Questions and Answers

My Great Grandfather was born in the Shetlands. His surname was Harper - all info I can get re clans indicates that he would have been of the Buchanan Clan, although this Clan was found predominantly around Lock Ness. Would the Harpers from Shetland be from a different clan, or is Shetland not included in the Scottish Clans? Hope you can help
