Northamptonshire Reports

Corby, Northamptonshire

Review of Corby by Rebecca on October 17th, 2007
What I expect from any new restaurant on Rockingham Road in Corby with its smart address and highly competitive location is a something either very different or something really classic. On first sight, it didn’t feel particularly this was either one or the other. The restaurant’s interior is cool and sleek with stylish modern furniture and clever soft lighting. What gave it away as an Indian were the little pink carnations and the super friendly welcome from a very hospitable manager. We ordered the house wine, which was a hardys Cabernet Sauvignon, which is a steal at £8.95, a bottle especially compared to London and Birmingham restaurants that I frequent. We had to ask for the wine bucket but then happily settled into looking at the menu and that is when we realised it wasn’t trying to be anything but a good classic Indian restaurant. All the usual dishes were represented and so we set about trying some of the suggested recommended items like the Garlic Murg (Chicken) or Naga Moris Chicken (chicken marinated in bengali hot pepper, ginger and garlic paste and served on a sizzler. Mouthwateringly hot is what the menu describes it as). These were new to me, but we also ordered some favourites like Tarka Daal and Peshwari Naan. Waiting for the food, waiting for our order and waiting for our wine was surprising and that’s when I noticed that these guys do a killer take away business too. At least when the food arrived it was really fantastic and everything it should have been. Delicious flavours, strong spices and good portions gave us little to find fault with. Later chatting to the owner, Mohammed, we were pleased to find out that there are plans to deal with the success of both operations and size up the provision for both types of service. This for me is good news for the locals because now they have a great take away and a great local restaurant with very reasonable prices. The Royal Tandoori definitely has the makings of a perfect modern classic Indian restaurant.
