We had a wonderful time at the Dolaucothi Gold Mine yesterday, we were on our way back to Oxford after a glorious break at Manordelio and decided to pay the mines a quick visit. My six year old son absolutely loved the gold panning and was thrilled to be able to take home a small bag full that he had collected. After booking places on the the Roman tour of the mines we went to the kitting shed to be given our equiptment and helmets etc, I was particularly impressed in the way they mad sure my son was fitted with the correct sized helmet and given a pair of wellies to borrow as he was only wearing open toed sandals. The tour itself was fascinating and the girl whom was our guide was excellent, she made it not only informative but fun as well, an hour is long time for a small child to be underground wearing a heavy battery and helmet but the time flew by as there was so much to see and experience. I would throughly recommend Dolaucothi gold mines to anyone.
