We visited the National Stud as part of a Newmarket Experience Day which included a visit to the Gallops, a look at a training Yard and an afternoon of racing. It was a brilliant day and one I will not forget in a hurry. The Guide at the National Stud was very interesting to listen to and the grounds are within very beautiful countryside. It takes about an hour and a half to be shown around and learning about what goes on is so interesting to young and old alike. I had in fact just finished reading a biography of Ginger McCain (he trained three times Grand National Winner Red Rum)....little did I know when the Guide took us to a horse nearby who was none other than Amberleigh House who won the National twice for Ginger McCain...he had donated Amberleigh to the National Stud as a kind gesture. It was a perfect day...I would recommend aranging to go on a Newmarket Experience Day and combine it with Racing in the afternoon if you can. Watching strings of racehourses out on the gallops is a sight to behold (all in their own training colours) and then going behind the scenes at a yard. Regards Anthony

To the National Stud Tours Administrator:_ Thank you very much for our tour last week. It was absolutely splendid and my party thoroughly enjoyed the visit. I must add that our enjoyment was enhanced by your tour guide Jean - she did a super job, and I would appreciate you passing on our thanks. You can be sure that we will recommend a visit to all our friends. Well done, David Bott.

This is a review from many years ago, when i was an intern at the british racing school.we paid two visits, the first in the october and the second in feb 86.I was priveliged to be one of the last groups to see the great mill reef as a week after our first visit the champion passed away. The national stud visits were amazing and stayed with me all these years.Where else could a wanabee jockey see so many champion thoroughbreds in one place.unfortunatly i gave up racing after a year with michael dickinson in manton, but thanks to the good people at the n.s ive maintained my intrest in horses and racing. thankyou all for the memories
