To the Store Manager – South Street, Worthing. Here is my review! Having been a regular customer of not just your department store but the restaurant too, I was very disappointed with the service I encountered today. I dislike junk food and try hard to avoid fast food diners as often as I can. I often opt for a Debenhams kid’s box, which both my children have always enjoyed. I entered the restaurant this lunchtime, at approximately 12:45 with my friend, her 4 year old son and my 3 year old son. She had never been to lunch at Debenhams before. I noticed that there were no boxes out and asked a young lady with glasses, behind the counter, if there were any at all available. She smiled and said she would look. After a few minutes of waiting, I returned to the young lady who avoided my gaze and only responded when I had to repeat my question. She said there were none available. Bearing in mind it was lunchtime, that was quite disappointing, but not a problem. As I looked in the selection, there was one plastic tub of sausages, which was half open and tipped over in the basket. That is very unhygienic! There were no other sandwich fillings in sight, or rolls! I asked at the counter whether there were any tubs of ham. One very kind lady offered to look and was immediately told not to by the very same young lady who had not bothered to communicate with us about the boxes earlier. She told the older lady that there weren’t any. When I asked, ‘are there no fillings at all’, she replied with quite a rude, arrogant and conceited smile ‘No!’ She had not checked and did not move an inch. The woman next to her was embarrassed and I was disgusted! I left and found to my amazement that Beales did have fillings and boxes for their rolls to go in. I am thoroughly disgusted by the attitude displayed by your member of staff towards myself, my friend and our children. The children’s area was poorly resourced and your member of staff was poorly trained and impertinent. No wonder the restaurant was empty – at lunchtime in the week running up to Christmas. My 3 year old son loves coming to Debenhams for his box, and we have never, ever known such rudeness. I would like to know how you deal with such rudeness and I do not expect it the next time I visit. I should also hope there is savoury food available in the children’s area. I am so cross and disappointed!
