MAJOR COMPLAINT about Crooked Inn at Trematon (Breed specific prejudice) My wife, 7 year old son, 14 month old English Bull Terrier and I are keen travelers and frequently spend time around the UK. On or travels we have visited numerous restaurants, pubs, B&B’s, Hotels and Travelodges all of which have been dog friendly and fantastically enjoyable. Our pet EBT is extremely well trained and behaved and has already won more than a handful of dog shows. He has been brought up with children and all manner of other pets and has never shown any signs of aggression. We are very responsible owners and take dog ownership seriously and are involved with dog rescue centers and many clubs. On Monday 27th Aug 2007 we traveled down into Cornwall with a Hotel booked near the Crooked Inn at Trematon just west of Saltash. Our intention was to visit this establishment for a couple of evenings and having read your review were looking forward to a pleasant meal in relaxing settings. On Tusday 28th 2007 we visited and upon entering the courtyard we were greeted by patrons and their children all asking about our dog and he received lots of attention and cuddles. He tried to make friends with the resident ducks in the courtyard as we have our own pet ducks that roam free in our garden. Then upon entering the doorway we were again greeted by patrons smiling and the resident dog came to say hello. All tails were wagging and both dogs were very happy. We had been in the doorway for about 30 seconds while the two dogs said hello, when we were apprehended by the landlady. She took one look at our dog and said “I am sorry but I don’t let them in here. Not THAT breed, not THEM”. She told us “some time ago on of those dogs attack my cat and I will not let them in here” My family and I were absolutely outraged. I can not believe someone in a supposedly dog friendly establishment can be so naive. Any dog can be aggressive, dangerous and unpredictable if mistreated and untrained. Our dog is a member of our family and should be treated as such not as a horrible unwelcome animal. The only way they would serve us would be if our dog stayed outside in the courtyard. There was no way we would pander to the Landlady’s request and eat outside in the cold. We had no choice but to vote with our feet, extremely angry, upset and let down. We have used numerous books and guides to dog friendly establishments over the years and had many excellent meals, but your establishment was totally out of order. Either you are dog friendly or not. You can not pick and choose ostracizing one breed over another. I am sorry your cat was hurt in the past but it was not our dog and blaming it on a breed alone is ludicrous. We feel very strongly that this establishment should be removed from any books and guides misleading people as being dog friendly. I am sorry for this but after a 45mile round trip to visit for a pleasant evening we were not welcome and left upset and angry for some time.
