Just returned from oddfellows Sad to see that alan bowes manager has now left, thanks for making janice and myself so welcome over the years we have visited, good luck and all the best in the future. New manager now in charge making some changes, bar , restaurant and rooms have been painted . Good promotion on beers, get six stamps on your beer card and get free pint. Menu has changed, not as much choice, but good.. No specials boards either, used to be nice to have something different to usual menu. Good luck in the future, look forward to seeing you's all soon

Went to eat at the Oddfellows Arms and found the mushroom risotto so over cooked the rice had disintegrated I complained to the waitress who did give apologies and took the meal to change it for another vegetarian dish, after 40 mins no replacement materialised and my husband had finished his meal. We decided to leave, we paid and asked them to cancel the order my husband complained to the landlord who shouted at us, it could not be helped as they were busy he was very unprofessional and rude this made my husband very angry. There was no real apology just the excuse they were busy. We will not eat there again nor will the large group of friends who go to Hesket Newmarket every year.

we have been going to oddfellows for about 6 years, approx 5 times a year, so that say`s a lot about the place. management alan bowes and his staff make you very welcome. the local that come in dennis, tony, gerge and all the rest, really make you welcome. paul , jen , joe in the kitchen turn out lovely food, sometimes even made me my own pudding (gooseberry crumble). rooms are cleaned every day. we always choose the same room , which is great, i am not going to tell you which room incase you all ask for it. if you p[l;an a visit please ask if harry and janice are there, as it would be nice to see you`s. we are going to oddfellows on the 3rd sept for three nights, matbe longer. also going for new years eve, which is a great evening. look forward to seeing you all.

My sister and her 7 yr old son and myself stayed overnight here. Rooms were very dreary but served the purpose of an overnight stay. On arrival we were welcomed with the attitude of being somewhat an inconvenience as the female had to leave the bar to get us a key. When we went to get a meal at 6pm we were addressed by a very rude man who asked us if we had booked a table. He said we should have booked a table when we booked the hotel if we wanted to eat as they were far to busy. We explained that we didn't make the booking and were not aware of this. He replied' well go and find a seat at the bar then and if you find one then we will serve you. We ended up sitting in the beer garden. When our food order came it was someone elses order. We were joined by a cat sitting on the table. When we had nearly finished our main course when the waitress brought out a plate of veg. Breakfast had to be pre ordered. The final straw was when we asked if my nephew could have a boiled egg for breakfast and the same man (the landlord)said they could'nt do a boiled egg for him. The next morning when we went for breakfast the waitress told us he could have a boiled egg- it was served in a ramkin as there were no egg cups. She said there was a bit cofusion . We were appalled at the overall attidude. If there had been somewhere else available to stay and eat we would have walked out. Never again!! Shambles

I was part of a group of six from the Southport Ramblers who walked the Cumbria Way. We decided to end our walk at Caldbeck having decided not to walk into a city after all those lovely lakeland fells. We had to take the westerly route due to bad weather. We arrived at the Oddfellows Arms in torrential rain after a 16 and a 1/2 mile hike to be greeted at a friendly and cosy pub. Our room was comfortable, evening meal delicious and breakfast excellent. The staff are friendly and efficient. Very good value for money. Two of us decided we could live there forever! LOL The only down side was NO HAIRDRYER. When I questioned this I was told that previous guests had stolen them. I have to say other B&B have managed to overcome this, as all the other accom on our trip had them. I will go back.......and take my own hairdryer. Very handy place to stay as close to Keswick if you have transport and there is a bus in the summer months

Had a great time during our stay at Oddfellows. Staff are lovely and helpful. Great food, great beer. The only point I have to mention, we stayed in room 9 which was fine, but having 3 cats sleep outside the bedroom door is a big no no. Would stay again if the cats didn't!

As a group of 4 walking the Cumbria Way - we arrived from Keswick after 'suffering' torrential rain & very strong winds earlier in the day, and it was delightful to arrive at the Oddfellows, to find a very congenial atmosphere, comfortable rooms and enjoy a fantastic meal - at a most reasonable cost, along with a few drams of course! We would recommend it to anyone, especially those 'on the hoof' we finished at Carlisle the next day in glorious sunshine..& home.

My wife and I stayed at the Oddfellows Arms. This was a most perfect weekend. Nothing but nothing was a bother to the staff who made our stay absolutely wonderful. Locals are the friendliest bunch we have come across in along time in our travels around the Lakes, although I have to say overall Cumbrians are the nicest people in the UK. Food was to die for, Lamb Jennings a must have. Trout fillets were great too. Beer, the perfect pints are served here. Try out the Watermill to for a bite to eat, cheese platters are great value. We made friends with a couple on a break for their anniversary, up from Bolton. Our only regret was not seeing them before we left. All the best for the future to Ian and Chris. All in all a relaxing, (want to stay in Caldbeck 4ever) break. Steve
