Strange that what you ahve to say "Pat" as the current owners have been sucessfully in situ since March 2010....think you have clearly got the wrong place.....cobwebs, blacked out menus.....certainly weren't in situ on our visit.....lovely pub and lovely people!

Lovely pub - great welcome, good beer and good food. Just what the doctor ordered! If I lived closer I would be there as often as possible. Well done and carry on the good work!!

I was very surprised to read the comments posted on 30th August. Having visited the Avon Inn on several occasions with my family I have only ever experienced a warm welcome, professional service and excellent food. It is refreshing to find a truly traditional pub with a genuinely friendly atmosphere. I would not hesitate to recommend the Avon Inn and look forward to future visits.

In response to the review below.....how worrying that peep can go away and write such fabricated things.....these websites are detriment to any business as far as im concerned....and certainly the information written should with out a doubt be verified before publication....I have some issues with a hotel im trying to book at present.....such conflicting reviews got to be a case of "make up my own mind".

we visited the avon inn for a family meal of four,we all ordered food,i ordered steak and ale pie with chips which was worded on the menu...... steak and ale pie with chips OR new potatoes & vegetables.when our food came out mine arrived with chips and peas,so my wife asked the waitress if i could have the vegetables as i don't like peas.......next thing i knew, the manageress came out and said thats how we serve it with chips & peas or new potatoes and vegetables, and if i wanted the veg it would be 10 mins or so ...i said don't worry about the veg as i didn't want to wait but it was stated that u would get veg with chips.....she was quite rude and argued the case saying this was not true and stormed off...2 mins later she returned with a menu and shoved it under my nose, causing an even more uncomfortably atmosphere(not like the warm and friendly atmosphere quoted on web listings!!!)she pointed to steak and ale pie which read as follows.......... steak and pie with chips OR new potatoes and vegetables.....she said "see...steak and ale pie with chips or new potatoes and vegetables,we gave you peas as a garnish" i said your still missing the point ,the menu is written wrong,........... she then after being very rude and abrupt with me said" the comma is missing!!!!!!!!!!! do you still want vegetables or not with a glaring stare!!!!!!!" i had already declined the veg 5 mins ago but for someone to be so rude who depends on paying public for a living needs to change her approach to management as she won't be getting my custom ever again!!!!!!!!!! WHAT HAPPENED TO THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT???????? i used to be a chef for 20 years(head chef for 15 of that) so i have an idea of how to write a simple menu!!!!!!!!!!

I live very close to two "foodie" pubs but would never use them while I can go to The Avon with its good substantial meals,no fussy frills just good pub food . And the landlord speaks, unlike the two nearer pubs!!!

In response to the reviews below im very sorry if you were unfortunate enough to be the victims of our THEN chef who, may i add lasted 5 days!!!!!....if we had been made aware of your problems then we would very happily of rectified the situation as to make a business suceed its always about keeping the customer happy..We pride ourselves on 22yrs of experience and our expertise in the trade, we use Gribbles of Ivybridge for our meats as people who have been to the pub will know as we advertise this in our menus....we are open to criticism aswell as the praise we receive for turning this pub back into what it used to be.....we hope you give us a second chance and look forward to your visit....many thanks, Thank You Andrew for your positivity and continued custom.

Gary and Karen have turned the Avon back into what it should be... a pub. The beer is the best in the county George and Fred and I pass 9 pubs to get to this one at least twice a week

Went to The Avon Inn to give the pub one last chance, why did I bother! Heard it was under new owners so thought I would take my wife for a meal. Ordered the pie and it was disgusting, cold and made with cheap cuts of meat. Smiles soon disappear when you've got a complaint, service was poor from start to finish. Shame...this pub was at such a high standard a few years ago, always looked forward to going out for a meal at the Avon Inn, not any more.

Had been a fan for the last year or so - however new owners have turned a favorite into disaster. Went on boxing day for lunch with the family, told that two of the starters were off, which left only the soup!

Great food Ive been on countless occasions since the new owners took over. Lasagne and hand made pizzas are superb as well as the thai fishcakes. You are not wrong about the staff though Its pretty much hit and miss some are great some should be sent back to charm school

Having come across their website wich looked very promosing, several friends and I travelled over thirty miles for dinner on a friday evening. We were somewhat dissapointed with the hospitality shown. The service at the bar and restaraunt came without a smile, and being pretty quiet we thought the food would come quickly.... we were wrong. After a long wait we did finally recieve our meals wich were average to fair. The main problem though was the service, we were made to feel awkward by the staff, and were not asked if we wanted any desserts, coffee etc. On the positive side, the area in which the Avon inn is set is marvelous, close to the moors, and also close to the A38.
