I booked a table for 6, 4 adults and 2 children for saturday evening, at 7pm. We arrived well before time, and ordered drinks in the courtyard. We were shown a menu, and ordered from our table at 7pm. At this stage the pub was very quiet. Then we waited, and waited and waited for our meals. No bread, no apologies for any delay. The pub began to fill up, new arrivals were given menus, and then food began to be taken out to those outside. And still we waited, until just before 8pm, I asked the barman what was the problem and how much longer would we need to wait. 5 minutes more he said. 10 minutes later I asked again, and reminded him that we had arrived nearly 11/2 hours before, "no madam" he said, "you ordered an hour ago. I said, "I know I ordered an hour ago, but arrived just after 6.30pm", he had been the one to serve our drinks. We were all very hungry by now, especially the children. Finally our meals arrived, and proved to be a huge disappointment. The meat was tasteless and over- cooked, and the pasta was burnt!" No apology was offered or explanation given for the long delay, the only half hearted apology came when my husband paid the bill, and the same barman said, "sorry for the delay". I should not have to keep asking how long it will take, it should be, and was obvious to everyone in the pub that there was a problem, yet we were given no recognition as customers, just ignored. I live in West Bay, and had been in the pub before for coffee and had been impressed, so as it was a special day, we came back with our family. As our table was in the centre of the pub, and we had made a reservation, its difficult to understand why we were given such shoddy service. Regards, Kathy Brookman

What a joy to find such a special place by chance. We have visited Bridport many times and during our last stay found the details of The Loders Arms in the visitors book with a note to say it was highly recommended. We are visiting Bridport again this weekend and have already booked our saturday evening meal here. If you get the cahnce be sure to visit and sample the wonderful cooking, charming setting and friendly but inobtrusive staff. What a gem !
