Reviews of Dolphin Inn, Betchworth

Best rates for a Local Hotel

Unfortunately since the new landlord has taken over - this pub has gone down hill. It is hardly used by the locals anymore and people are finding alternatives. Mainly this due to the lack of feeling there - most of the staff can't speak English (including the Landlord) and the beer is not what it was. The food is over priced. The place is, for want of a better term, dead. Such a real shame.

The brilliant atmosphere and unique old British culture found in this pub was astonishing and complimented the warm welcome we received at the antique style bar. We decided to sit in the garden because of the fantastic scenery and the cute pub dog who I was informed by the landlord name was ‘Bruno’. The service was friendly and professional but the best was still to come. At a glance the food looks English and inviting. My husband and I chose the homemade pate of the day, which happened to farmhouse. This was rich smooth and delicious. As a main I ordered the Cumberland sausage and mash. As far as this dish goes it was everything I could have hoped for. Thick juicy sausages, creamy mash and stunning rich gravy that I presume is homemade. My husband had the fish of the day; Salmon in a white wine and dill sauce that he told me was delightful. After our dinner we where lucky enough to bump into the current managers of the Dolphin Inn, Chris and Melanie Gowers. They where so welcoming and inviting with a great sense of pride and achievement in their work that they have created together. Overall an absolute must have experience if a traditional pub lunch is what your after.
