We were astounded to read the last review. Are you sure you were in the right pub? We have been going to this pub for 20 years now and we have never, ever had one complaint to make about the food, the pub or the wonderful staff. We are not local either. We actually make a 35 mile round trip to have a meal there - probably about once every couple of months. We go back time and time again because not once have we ever had a bad meal there. And the pies to take away are fabulous. Just goes to show that you can't suit all of the people all of the time.

Went for lunch with two friends who recommended the Pack Horse.Excellent pub for for walkers but not for any sort of discriminating diners. Room was dirty, cook and waiter surly, food very ordinary indeed, purely presnetd and prepared. We are still on good terms with our friends!

The Packhorse Inn is one hell of a pub. The location is stunning. The food is delicious. The drinks selection is good. And I can honestly say that I've never failed to receive the warmest of welcomes there. Pay it a visit - you won't regret it.

I'm very surprised to read negative reviews of the Packhorse - as far as I am concerned it is one of the finest establishments in Yorkshire, and the Aberdeen Angus thick sliced beef has to be tasted to be believed. To really do it justice, I like to walk up Colden clough, stop for lunch at the ridge, and then walk back through Hebden Dale. Food: 10/10 Location: 10/10 Ale 8/10 (No Timmy Taylor's!) Highly Recommended!

What an amazing place! Placed in the middle of nowhere and surrounded by beautiful countryside walks we found a real gem in The Packhorse Inn. The food was delicious all hearty home cooked fare, service was excellent and there is an impressive selection of single malts. Jonathan, the manager treated us like friends and we were sorry we had to leave. We'll be back!!

Been to the Pack Horse a few years ago on a busy lively sunny day and had a lovely meal so decided to take my family there for lunch today (3/9/08) and as we walked into the pub and sat down, ordered drinks, I don't think I've felt so unwelcome in a long while. The lady behind the bar never raised her eyes, we felt like trespasses, it felt so uncomfortable that we drank our drinks quickly, paid for them and left to eat elsewhere, which is a brave thing to do with hungry toddlers, but they absolutely did not invite our custom. I will never go their again, I don't believe they understand they're in the hospitality business.

Awesome food. Amazing setting. Easy to access walks starting from pub car park. Ideal meeting spot for runners, mountain bikers, and rock climbers with the gritstone edge of widdop moor offering more than ever due to new right to roam. Only downside, chap behind bar can be a little rude at times? Though he can afford to be, and is only trying to fulfil his yorkshire man character, just humour the barman and sample the food and asthetic delights.
