I went to the White hart for lunch and it was very good plenty of food home made beer and they even make their own cider .I have seen some other coments made on this site and to be fair I think it's a load of rubbish and these people should be liable for slander might even be written by jealous competion as the White hart is the best looking pub in the area and is in all the pub guides .my advice would be to try it and see for yourself

I went with my partner today for a nice meal, and i was disappointed. The food wasn't seasoned at all, so lacked any flavour, and when i asked for a salad option i was served a huge platter of dry lettuce, unprepared radishes, a spring onion in the shape of a flower?!?!? and melon. with a steak. and the chips may be rustically home made, but they are bland and soft. be warned also, price doesn't equal flavour, so assume nothing. a Stella Cidre was £4.40, with an awful soup and bread being £7. That they have no waiters isn't inherently a bad thing, but their service is terrible, with a landlady shouting to her family, though paying when you order means one can leave ASAP without reprisal. i had heard of the 'famous ales' though none were plain beers, with only stout and bitter on tap, and i dare not think how much they'd charge. i also didn't want to trick myself through a drunken haze that this pub had merit.

I was a little apprehensive about visiting the White Hart after reading some recent reviews as I had not visited for about two years. However on arrival with friends who had not been there before, we were met and welcomed by two members of the family (mother and daughter-in-law)and invited into thr bar to have a drink. In spite of some reviews which suggest the White Hart has recently changed hands thid is not so. We sampled a few of their own beers which were very good, we were served our meals by one of the sons who was very polite, helpful and welcoming. While looking around some of the many artifacts on display we met another son (the chef)who was also very friendly. All in all we enjoyed our visit and yes the meals are not cheap but if you are on a tight budget, I suggest you go somewhere else. I would reccomend this pub for the beer, the food and the ambience.

well where can I start. Overpriced for substandard food. I ordered a fillet steak with brandy sauce and it cost £23 which comparatively is the most expensive fillet I have bought. I asked for it to come medium cooked. It arrived in three small pieces (why?) and there was not a drop of blood to see. My sauce arrived and I expected it to be nice, but wow was I mistaken. It had the consistencey of milk and was tasteless. My partner endured the same. Worse though as she ordered her steak medium rare and again there was not one drop of blood in it. I am all for training the family and teaching people young but I was very annoyed to see the 14-15 year old daughter at the grill cremating my £23 steak. This is totally not acceptable and I suggest you think twice about eating there.

My family and I visited the White Hart in Llanddarog in September 2010. We had a young child of 2 with us and shortly after taking our seats we noticed that there was a substantial amount of food on the floor beneath us. Finding this inappropriate and not wanting to sit in food we placed a request with the waitress to clear what was beneath the table. We were ignored on 3 occasions by this member of staff – my mother requested a dust pan and brush so that she could remove the food herself! Finally, we approached another member of staff to clean our area. We were told that the cleaner would attend in the morning! When we said that this was unacceptable we were told ‘not to be so silly’! We found this utterly unacceptable and stated that we weren’t prepared to pay top class prices to sit in a sty (it’s very expensive). We took our drinks to the bar area prior to leaving to dine somewhere civilised. Whilst we were finishing our drinks the staff members convened at the bar to laugh with 2 other staff members at our objections. I found this absolutely outrageous and so approached the bar and requested to speak with the manager or owner. I was informed (defensively and sarcastically) that there was no manager (which is all too apparent). When I registered my complaint with the ladies behind the bar I was accused of having requested one’s daughter to pick food off the floor! You get the picture – these people are impossible, dirty and outrageously rude whilst offering no customer service whatsoever.

i have been visiting the white hart inn for many years and have to say the food is very good the portions are large and they only use the best ingredients the beef is welsh black. another special thing is that you can see the food being cooked as the kitchen is open plan so no yesterday microwaved meals at the white hart. at the bar you can get a tast of ales and stouts brewed on site this treat is not available any where else near by so not to visit will be a great expirience missed and you will regret for the rest of your life. the pub is family owned so this makes it individual and not mass produced like many

We ate at this place several years ago and had a reasonable bar lunch, so we stopped for Sunday lunch yesterday on the way to Swansea. It was without doubt the worst roast dinner I have come across in 30 years working in catering, and at £9.50 a head, not cheap either. The plates were cold, the beef was overcooked to the consistency of corned beef, the yorkshire pudding was soggy and tough, the roast potato was cold in the middle and had a strange, waxy texture, and the gravy was tasteless. Even Bisto would have been better! The signs were that the whole lot had been cooked and plated that morning or even the night before and then microwaved as needed. We didn't bother complaining as every other customer's lunch looked identical, so it was unlikely that there would be any improvement. I wished later that we had as I suffered indigestion for the rest of the day. Avoid this place like the plague - just because food is served in a beautiful building it doesn't excuse bad quality.

My wife, my children and I have visited the White Hart three times and on each occasion, have found the staff to be courteous and humorous. What a hard working family! The pub itself is beautiful and is full of interest inside and out. Even if you have to wait 20 mins or so on a busy day for what will surely be a delicious meal, there's no way you could be bored as they have not the slightest objection to you walking around admiring the items of a former age liberally sprinkled around though this is best done half an hour or so before menu opening so as not to be discorteous to other visitors. And what a treasure chest of goodies they have. I wondered how modern folks like us would have faired using some of the gear on show.!! You can leave the White Hart uplifted, and certainly full but watch out for their brews for if only for those alone, you'll be back. ps. Look out for the "old" van in the car park but be advised that it is a "falsie." The gaffer if he has time will happily talk about it and fill you in on the spec. ijs

I am not one to bother writting if I have had a good time but this pub is so special I thought that I would. We looked on the internet an saw this delightfull old pub an took a visit I had my 3 year old with me she had the usual sausage and chips and I had a beef and ale pie with chips. the chips were hand cut and not frozen as you cauld tell. I washed it down with a beer brewed on site this was called swn y dail this was to die for, at the end of our meal we decided to share a knikerbocker glory and was expecting one of those ready made frozen ones, but I was wrong, it was made fresh with plenty of fruit, icecream, fresh cream and sauce, what a delight. Next time I visit I am going to try the 20 oz White Hart Steak. good value for money and a fantastic place just to look at the old things if you don't go you will missout on one of wales best treasures take a look at their web www.thebestpubinwales.co.uk great!!!!!!!!!

Looked nice from the outside and had a nice warm log fire inside. The woman behind the bar couldn't have been less helpful, 'you can't sit there if you're eating that', she even got annoyed when our group of 4 wanted to have 2 separate bills. The food was slightly strange, the hot sandwiches came in these weird plastic bags and the burger was so bland I thought I was eating some cardboard. Beer was pretty good though but I certainly wouldn't go back.

What a great traditional pub, without a trace of 'plastic' of the big chains. Claiming to originally date back to 1371, it is a local stone pub nicely extended to give plenty of tables with appearing a cavern, with children's area outside. A warm welcome was supported by a good range of drinks and a range of menu and special meals. Although popular with tourists and locals, the meal was available in good time, and my wife stated it was the best trout she has had. Our only compliant is closed on Wednesdays, as we had hope to try more of the menu.

As I was passing by i thought I'd call in for a meal. When I drove upto the public house I saw lots of Welsh flags and therefore thought, wrongly as it turned out, that the "friendly Welsh welcome" or dare I say "croeso" , would include being able to speak Welsh with the bar staff. I asked therefore for drinks in Welsh and was told by the barmaid, "If you want anything in here you'll have to ask in English". At that point I should have turned on my heels and walked out of the place. I did however stay for food which was poor and certanily not worth the inflated prices being charged. I've had far better food in many, many places and without paying a premium for some bogus "Welsh" welcome. Before I left I heard the same barmaid explaining to another customer the meaning of "cwrw blasus". She obviously therefore understood that much Welsh and I think a lot more. This establishment is marketed as a museum, with such an atittude that's exactly where it should stay. A waste of time and money visiting, not an experience I'll be repeating.

This pub looked delightful and I was looking forward to sampling the cuisine. I thought the prices were rather expensive looking at the menu. My husband ordered the steak and ale pie, which turned out to be full of mostly vegetables, with hardly any steak! I ordered sirloin steak which was very tough and hard to chew - I was very disappointed, especially as the menu was boasting Welsh Black Beef. My mother in law ordered the turkey and leek pie and chips - this was ok but contained an awful lot of leekes! We would not return to this pub and certainly would not recommend it to anyone that we know. Looks can be deceiving - just because the outside looks charming the food certainly did not live up to our standards. I am used to fine food but made the mistake of expecting it from this establishment. Looking around the pub quite a few people left a lot on their plates - unfortunately quantity rather than quality seemed to be the order of the day. Yesterday we dined in PAs wine bar in Mumbles and enjoyed fine cuisine where we had two wonderful courses for less than the price of one in the White Hart! There was only one plus point - my husband enjoyed their local stout.

i am a cask ale fan and was eagar to try the ales brewed at the white hart, so i caught the bus from carmarthen to ammanford and soon i was there it was a nasty wet day so was very happy when i walked in the thatched pub to see a real log fire, so i set my things down on the table along side the fire, and was now excited to see a traditional stout on the bar so that was my first choice it was a rich smooth stout with plenty of body, i felt at home with the fire to my side and news paper in hand. after this delight i wondered if the next ale would be as good, cwrw blasus was its name, i was told by the young man behind the bar that it meant tasty ale, yes it was extremley tasty with it's dark copper colour this pint went down too fast though. my last ale was swn y dail meaning sound of the leaves quite appropriate for the time of year, this was a pale coloured ale with a distinctive citrus and fruit taste suprisingly morish the only upseting thing was i had to leave to catch the bus home what an excellent day and will suerly be back

we have just moved into carmarthen and were told to visit the white hart. The olde worlde inn is fantastic, the day we visited it was very full, so we thought we would not get a meal, but not a problem we were told by the lady behind the bar. we dont book just sit at an empty table (not many left as there were so many people)and order your food at the bar.The order was given and within 20 minuits we were eating. My wife had a "sizzling bass in garlic" and I had a 20oz white hart steak we both had real chips, the meal was out of this world. I would realy recomend this public house. A real winner !!!!

Our children played with the sons children in the garden and even visited their small farm to see thgeir pigs, chickens, geese and tortoise. If you are in the area you must visit betty

This pub should be a real winner. Thatched roof, beautiful surroundings, loads of history.. My wife and I had a memorable (for all the wrong reasons) meal here. When going to the bar to order, the chap in front tried to order but hadnt taken his table number. He pointed to his wife just 5 metres away and said "That table" in the empty corner they were sat on. The lady behind the bar insisted that he get her the number (even though I would hope the staff knew the table numbers.. How do they get the food out??). Alarm bells were then ringin when I ordered the mixed grill and asked for my steak to be done medium. I was told that i would have to have my steak "as it comes, as there is a lot for the chef to keep an eye on" !!! I was so stunned, I didnt even think of doing what i should have, which was to walk out. I paid and sat down.. still stunned. The catalogue of rudeness un un helpfulness could be witnessd from our table thoughout the evening. It was the only subject of conversation betwen my wife and I. The food was OK, although we were suprised for the table to be set(incorrectly) and starters served by the eight year old grandaughter. Never again will I visit the White Hart until I hear of a change of management. AVOID at all costs

Having previously visited and witnessed staff here being very rude to customers i was reluctant to return. On this occasion i left being absolutely stunned by the rudeness of the owners. Food was nice but over priced pub grub. When complaining about damage to property caused by their negligence they merely laughed and said it was our fault. No attemt to appologise was made. Further phonecalls made resulted in them being rude and arrogant once more. I can positively say i will never put another penny into the pockets of these people.
