I have stopped going to M&S entirely, as have several others I know, because of the trashy and intrusive muzak. M&S has very sadly fallen for the propaganda of the companies who make money by selling this stuff - it costs stores £250,000 nationwide per year to have it, yet it does not bring in one extra penny! When we complained, we were told 'Up and down the land, people are telling us that they want music in stores.' We said - prove it - they could not. Staff, too, hate it but are too scared to speak up. M&S have lost market share, Wairose has gained it. No prizes for guessing why. Every bit of feedback on muzak in M&S is negative.

My husband and I came to your branch looking for a formal suit, and met with such helpful staff, liasing through three departments that the whole procedure was speedy and even enjoyable, and successful! We have no names other than Barbara whose advice was invaluable. She introduced us to the shirt and shoe experts and then found us the ideal cashmere 'V 'neck we had been seeking. So, well done to all those staff we met, their help was greatly appreciated, Yours sincerely, Dr and Mrs Phaure

I have not visited the branch in question, but am campaigning vigorously against the ghastly piped music in Marks and Spencer stores in London. It is driving core customers away. It is intrusive and trashy, and does not accord at all with the image that those of us who patronise M and S associate with it. M and S head office feebly ascribes the playing of muzak to customer "feedback". The only feedback of which I am aware is unfavourable.

I agree with the piped music issue. M & S always used to be a haven of peace and quiet away from the intrusion of muzak. You used to value your more 'mature' customers - people who manage to shop without this musical intrusion - but you'll drive us away.

I was very disappointed on visiting the store,to discover that M&S has jumped on the band wagon, by having piped 'music'playing. What is the matter with silence? Many people don't like pop music. It is intrusive and doesn't help concentration when one is irritated by the noise it produces. Can't you go back to no music? Otherwise I shall not be shopping with you very often in the future.
