We visited this restaurant for our grandparents/parents 40th wedding anniversary. Although the place looked impressive and the food was good (but nothing special), the service was absolutely appalling, in particular the manager. Instead of just writing a log review, I will just bullet point some of the things that were wrong with the service we received: * Champagne that was paid for in advance and requested to be on table was not when we were lead to table from bar. When we asked for it one waitress said “sorry, we are under staffed”. The managers response was “we didn’t want it to be warm” when we complained but it only needs to be one the table for a minute before you come and see us to our seats! * Food took an age to come. The managers response was “we told you you should have pre-ordered food” but there were only 8 of us, it really is standard al a carte. On top of this we had to wait a long time in between courses too. By the time the main had come, we had already ordered extra bottles of wine. * There were no stake knifes on table when food came, had to wait for them to come after food was delivered. * By the time someone came to table to ask if everything was ok, two people had already finished (not to sound ignorant, but this may be because some of the portions were a bit on the small side. A main mean should be a good size when you are only having two or three courses) * We had to remind them to bring coffees and a Baileys at end of the meal after waiting for over ten minutes after ordering. We then waited a further 10 minutes for them to forget the Baileys again. On top of these, there were quite a few other little hick-up that I won’t go in to, but I think you get the point. The killer reason though that has made me right this review was the managers attitude. During the meal he actually seemed quite friendly, but when I approached him to talk about the service we had received, he turned. He became extremely defensive and on top of the comments I mentioned above, the thing that really shocked me was when he turned around and said “have you come out for a good time, or just for a good moan”. I could not believe that any person working in a customer service orientated industry would ever come out with this line. I have no idea how he ended up with a managers job at a restaurant like this, but he really needs to learn how to; one, manage his staff, and two, how to deal with a customer who has a complaint. Going on the defensive is the worst possible way to resolve a complaint, intact, it makes it 1000 times worse. We will never be visiting again, nor will will we be recommending it anyone unless we hear that it has changed hands. It is a shame really as the food isn't bad, and it has a nice atmosphere, but when you are paying these prices, service really is the key.

I have never had such a poor meal in any establishment as I did today. The alternative to what we ordered (beef) was lamb, when it came the portion was very small and very fatty. The vegetables, that's a laugh, unwashed/peeled, hairy carrots which were raw, courgettes, one tiny spoonful of mash potato and a tiny roast potato. The only tasty part were the herbs. There was also a tiny smidging of another tasteless vegetable which looked like, but did not taste like an onion. The service was exceedingly slow, when asked if we could have more potatoes, were told we had to wait till everyone was served to see if there were any left. The trifle was a dish of cream, the apple crumble was not apple. I certainly won't be returning to this establishment, very poor on the whole.

A friendly pub/restaurant with really good food at every day prices. We had a 3 course meal for two for £50. We started with a cauliflower soup served with two pieces of home made bread and a crab pancake, both very good. For the main course we both had lamb. Amazing tender meat well presented, served with a dish of seasonal vegetables and a choice of potatoes or chips. It is very rare to find food of this high quality served with a choice of chips. The best lamb we have ever had. Pudding was a strawberry panna cotta (real strawberry flavour) served with chocolate ravioli and a 3 flavour ice cream. The chocolate orange and the brown bread ice cream were lovely. Great food at great prices.

Decided to have lunch out today and just popped into the Redwell inn, We had a coffee and liquer,which was served with a delicious truffle. we had a drive out and returned for a late lunch, It was wonderful tasty well presented and served, the staff were very friendly and helpful. we could only eat a main course, as probably over indulged over the festive season, We will be back to do the food more justice, it ranks very highly in the best places we have eaten.The Redwell holds many memories as I frequented it in my teens in the 60's. we will most definately be returning and good luck to the owners and chef you are onto a winner.

This recently refurbished restaurant is wonderful. The new decor is very tasteful and stylish. The owners are very welcoming and the food is to die for, all fresh and made from scratch in the kitchen! Its set in such scenic surroundings a visit here is a real tonic.

My wife Angela, son Callum and I visited the pub having met the new manager - Richard the week previous in Settle. Having travelled from the Leeds area we made a special effort to find the pub, and found the company both pleasant and friendly. The food was excellent and reasonably priced, and its nice to find a pub which actually serves fresh, local produce, and 'real' chips! We liked the pub so much in fact we not only stayed the night, but my wife has booked for our Wedding Anniversary in October. We can think of no better place to celebrate. We have read some of the other reviews on this website and can honestly declare that they are grossly exaggerated. If only other Inns and Hotels gave you the same welcome. We wish Richard and his staff every success!!!

I believe that the pub changed hands again as recently as 6 weeks ago. My wife and I went for a meal and would have had better at a local chip shop. There were three other people who ordered at the same time as we did and whereas we had to wait 33 minutes for our single course, the other 3 had to wait for 38 minutes. With only 5 diners in the restaurant area, one wonders what happens when they are busy. My wife had fish and chips with 2 colours of batter. The chips were dark chocolate while the fish was pale gold. Luckily we had companionship both before and during the meal. We had 2 highly curious flies, while the other table said they had 5. Flies should not be thriving in an eating area. I wonder how many are in the kitchen ? The beer mats on the tables, cheap though they are to buy, had not been changed for at least a week and were coming apart having been wet and dry many times during their life. The fly problem needs to be addressed, as does the speed of service together with the multiple reheating of the chips and the place needs an internal painting. On the plus side, the gents toilets were spotless (though the ladies less so), fly free and a credit to the establishment - other hotels would do well to emulate their standards. Unfortunately, one cannot eat a meal in the toilets. Regards, James Walker

My wife and I decided to call in at the Redwell after hearing that it had changed hands and opened under new management since our last visit. We found the atmosphere once more warm and welcoming. The staff were eager to please and the meals we had were well prepared and delicious. What a change to be served homemade chips and obviously freshly cooked vegetables. It was good to find the Redwell back to it's usual high standards. We'll be returning very soon!!

Attended for meal with parents and husband. Pub did not smell clean when we walked in. Ate in the dining room. Tablecloths creased and dining room gloomy and very quiet. Not even any background music to break the silence. Three had duck breast with orange and redcurrant glaze. Duck tough as old boots and glaze neither resembled or tasted of orange or redcurrants. Veg consisted of cauli, carrots and snap peas, all steamed to death and tasteless as was all the meal. One had curry and had to put salt on it to give some taste. So glad we did not have a starter or sweet as we paid £34 pounds for this disgusting meal. We would never return and it is such a shame as it is in a lovely spot. Shame that the standards of food are so low. Its daylight robbery!!!
