We had a great time at the lake even though the weather could have been better and the toilets weren't that clean. I was just about lucky enough to find a not so clean, barely warm shower while my good lady found a shower that was unbarably hot which was not much fun. We thought £12 a night and 50p a shower was a bit steep and because we were not allowed on until 2pm, by the time we had set our stall out, we had missed out on the best part of a days camping. We were also unlucky to chose a cosy corner of the field close to the rather smelly waste disposal. It was also the part of the field with the least sun and it did become very waterlogged. However, my three nieces and the two dogs had a whale of a time so we probably will return for a weekend break but chose our plot more carefully.

We're heading to this site tomorrow and found the booking process quite straight-forward, they happily booked us in for a single night stay. After reading some of the reviews we're a bit worried now as we're taking a small child with us... Hopefully it will go ok. We'll post back on here to say how it went.

I would not consider staying at Hollingworth Lake again. I stayed on a couple of occasions due to how convenient it is for a few days away but have always found it to be very unfriendly, especially with children. My son was often told not to play on the grass in front of my caravan as not to disturb the many contractors staying in the site. I have recently tried to book again on a couple of occasions only to be told they were saving the pitches for the contractors as these were more lucrative for them. All in all...a grumpy old man who often patrols the site in his car...no children allowed to play and a site full of older caravans housing contractors who are working in the area...not exactly what you expect on a family break away!

the people who run this campsite are very friendly people who are happ to help.the location is lovely and quiet with the simple pleasures of hollingworth lake afew hundred meters down the road with great course fishing. the only negative thing i have to say about this campsite is...if you dont have a caravan, dont have a shower! not only does is cost money to have one but mine was very cold, and my door did not lock.although this was in the old shower block.i would have used the newer showers but you can only use tokens from the shop and it was closed. apart from this, it is a lovely place to stay and i would go back.

well where do i start.with only being pretty new to caravaning ( 8 months ) we wanted to go fairly local to get the feel of the van and where did our first site spring to mind.you guessed it hollingworth lake.we have never looked back since, frank, kath, linda, stan and not forgetting adam what a most wellcoming set of people you could ever meet where nothing is too much trouble.we have taken our van there for weekends probably more times than the average person uses thier own van.excellent facilities i.e shower block, toilets, potwash, hook ups.well done to you all and we will see you very soon .we would not hesitate in recommending hollingworth lake caravan park to anyone even young families..... lee & jackie jackson

A lovely camping field - large, level and quiet with immaculate toilets/showers. A well stocked shop with very low prices and wonderful northern hospitality. Surrounding area - pleasant walk around lake, 'beach' area, chip ahops, posher shops, great pubs, amusement arcade (just one)

Nice location, very fortunate for them though, because there is little else to offer. Caravans seem to have good facilities in terms of hooks ups etc, and therefore I was dismayed to be charged £12.00 per night for a two-person tent( the same as a caravan with electrics etc)also, to add insult to injury, even to get hot water in the primitive washblock costed 10p! Either they're trying to deter people in tents or just to cash in, anyway, I felt very miffed at paying £12.00 for what I got.

This has been my first time in a caravan when i arrived at the site i was welcome by to lovely people called lynda and stan and they could not more helpful if they tryed 2 great people, they booked us in and directed us to our plot and helped us with all the little things we have never done before, even introduced us to other caravaner's,but then you will see a white van driving around the site with a very grumpy old farmer who is the owner of the site who is the complete oposite and he makes you feel that you are in his way and intruding on his land,if you are there for a week he is happy but if your there for 1or 2 nights you are costing him money and makes you feel unwelcome (sad man called frank)so if you do not get to meet linda or stan who looks after you.get out of there fast.So frank if you would like to reply to my e-mail feel free from a very unhappy first time cavaner Mr D.T.Fisher
