Having visited the Rose Tree Inn at Shincliffe on many occasions just for a quiet family meal we decided to see if we could book the restaurant for a family birthday party. At every stage along the way the landlord Ken was always courteous and accomodating - he always tried to find a way to help us. I did think he would tire of the endless phonecalls and emails which felt more like organising some military operation rather than a party for 27! The actual party went without a hitch and everyone said what a lovely meal they had. We cannot speak too highly of the staff and service. Thankyou

My family and i come up to Durham for a wedding without having booked anywherte to stay. We were getting quite desperate when we called in The Rose Tree to ask for suggestions. The people there could not have been more helpful and after several phone calls, found us a room in the delightful Seven Stars about half a mile away. We ate in The Rose Tree that night and would heartily recommend it to anyone looking for good food and a warm wlecome.

Visited this establishment on a recommendation recently and was very impressed with all aspects of the place;the welcome, the decor and the food.Staff were very friendly and helpful and the choice of food good- not OTT but good everyday selection served with a touch of style and thoughtfullness(the chocolate sponge with custard was 'top drawer')All served in a delightfully decorated interior with lots of character.Well worth a visit.
