Bad food, slow service and a surly landlord. Like being back in the Britain of the 1950s. Look at the view, then eat somewhere else.

My wife and I dropped in for lunch on the way back from Stroud one afternoon. We both thought that the pub was really nice inside, had quite a modern feeling and was more restaurant than pub. There were people of all ages eating there.
The menu was not extensive, something the great Gordon Ramsey would advocate I'm sure. We both had steak pie and were very pleased with it, certainly plenty of meat.
I am planning to take my wife there for Valentine's day, we both liked the place so much. It was definitely better than the 4 Mile Inn in Brookthorpe.

My husband & I eat here on a fairly regular basis and have always been really delighted with the food. There is a large menu and the majority of food offered is home-cooked good pub grub. The portion sizes are enormous and it would be quite a challenge to have a 3-course meal. The wine list isn't huge but would accommodate most people's usual easy drinking wines at a reasonable cost. For a nice night out with friends, it's hard to find a better place to go.

Slightly expensive for basic fare, gammon well overdone, lamb meal had dried edges to gravy, so had been on the hot-shelf too long. Vegetables soft, probably also been plated up and placed on hot-shelf. And the lamb itself, we are convinced, instead of carved joints (appropriate for the cost), was perfect roundels of thin and tasteless slices, and was quite obviously catering pack.

Nice view but overcharging for unexceptional food. Approx 9cm square of OK meat pie with small portion of veg and re-heated chips was £9.00!!. House red tasted decidedly down range. On the other hand - beer was excellent. Conclusion - go on a nice day for a beer with a view. Wouldn't go there again for food.
