Bad Points: Parking can be a problematic with such a small hotel car park. Can't the hotel obtain some sort of pass for hotel customers during their stay, perhaps for a small fee, so they can park on the nearby streets at least until after breakfast? General review: comfortable and enjoyable.

Quite possibly the best hotel in southern England. The staff were friendly, helpful, and very knowledgable. Our room was stunning with excellent views of the bustling market town. The bar was modern and well stocked with some very rare and well priced wines. The food served in a stylish cosmopolitain dining room can only be described as A1 quality. They have a seriously talented chef and every meal is perfection on a plate.I could go on for ever, go there now for a brilliant stay. 10/10

I'm not sure how they can justify £99 per room when they are only a 3 star. Rooms were tiny, overheated, worn and tired. Ripped lampshades, urine smelling carpet, scruffy old blankets, one towel only provided, no iron in room, peeling paint, top floor - all the rooms are badly sloped so bed is on a severe slant and you can't put anything on the furniture without it falling off. This hotel is a a total rip off - they should not be charging more that £50 per room. Staff were all friendly and polite enough but no lift, average breakfast. I will not be back... and I will be writing a letter of complaint too. Shocking value for money. Outrageous!

We had stayed at this hotel last August and were thoroughly impressed with it, and decided to use it again for the May bank holiday. What a mistake. There was a wedding on at the hotel for the Saturday night and the hotel is just not big enough to host a wedding without it distrupting the other guests staying there. We wanted to get to the bar for a drink and eventually once we had got our drinks there was no where to sit as the wedding guests were all in the lounge and had no choice but to sit on the stairs - not what I expected for the money I had paid. It then got worse after they'd had their meal, with children running riot all around the hotel along the corridoors and up and down the fire escape - so much for a quite weekend. I asked if they would be doing a bar meals that evening and was told if we could get a seat we could have a bar meal, but they were going to be very busy and it is unlikely that we would get a seat. Our hotel room was directly opposite the disco which meant we had the noise of that for most of the night as well. We will not be staying at this hotel again.

After booking this hotel for a special treat for my wife and myself, we settled back and looked forward to the splendour the web sight boasts about. Once arriving at the hotel we were more than pleased with the polite and willing staff, but that is were being impressed stopped. I paid £147 per night for what was basically an double sized bedroom, with the on-suite bathroom being the larger room of the two. Its true the Thomas Hardy does have a four poster bed but really that is were it ends, there is no view from this room, which i may add is the most expensive in the hotel. Our first meal was wonderful, though your choices were limited, which got even worse over the next two days. Our second day in this wonderfull hotel resulted in the meal choices being even less, three times i ordered differant meals to be told it had run out, and so resulting in my wife and i having to choose meals that we never really enjoyed, not bad for a small hotel who's dinning room was never full during our stay. The third day was even worse, there was only one item on the nenu that i had not eaten during our stay, due to the terrible menu and again it was the same two vegitables, baby sweet corn and pea pods. It would be a very good idea for the hotel manager or the owner to re-access the running of this hotel and perhaps take a leaf out of the waiting on staff's book. Bar snacks were rubbish, both in prep and overall presentation, infact it got so back that the night porter, bar person come toilet cleaner was so embarest, he refused to take payment for it so we through it in the bin once we got to our room. I would love to recomend this to friends and family but i would have to lie through my teeth to compliment this hotel and i will not be using it again even though i will be spending a lot of time around Dorchester over the next three years. Well done to the waiting on staff, it was a pleasure to meet you. Yours Mr D Lewis ( Feeling totaly let down by your standards of service and for making our stay far less than we had hoped for )

Good Points: Friendly staff, location and secure car parking Bad Points: Beds too hard !!! General Review: This Hotel is very convenient as we travelo from the Channel Islands and like to stay overnight before an early ferry. But since our last stay the beds have become much too hard and fo this reason I would be most reluctant to book at this hotel again.

Good Points: Very friendly staff - will do their best to make you feel comfortable Bad Points: Room temperature - the hotel only has single glazing and it was a very cold night. General Review: This hotel offered easy access to the town centre, the staff were very friendly and helpful. If you travel by train here to Dorcester West, make sure you have your mobile with you to phone for a cab - the station is unmanned.
