Very glad to say this Art Deco pub has been completely refurbished by McMullens of Hertfordshire. It is now a warm, friendly establishment, with cheerful, helpful staff and a good atmosphere. It is not "fine dining", but doesn't pretend to be: the food is reasonably priced, with a good selection of dishes, quite often with a choice of portion size. It was packed on Saturday night, pre-booking certainly recommended. My steak was lovely, and I can recommend the caramelised orange sponge pudding, complete with jug of custard! The curry smelled pretty good too. With sandwiches/jacket potatoes in the £4.50/£4.75 range, I envisage this pub could be popular at lunchtimes too. The ability to park outside is a rare thing in Bishops Stortford these days. Well done McMullens!

Eight of us went to eat there and had chosen The Nags Head because it is one of the few wheelchair accessible restaurants in the area. The Nags Head is a listed Art Deco building and could have a wonderful stylish restaurant, but alas it does not. The food is slightly upmarket from a Little Chef. The room is crowded with mismatching styles of tables and chairs. After 9p.m. we were the only diners in the room and the chef left at 10p.m. probably out of boredom. The middle aged manager seemed to be preoccupied with chatting up much younger girls in the adjoining bar rather than looking after his diners. This was an experience never to be repeated and I would definately not reccomend that anyone wanting a nice meal out should put themselves through this dire experience.
