Very disappointing.Meat was good but the supporting veg was very poor.
After the hype a big letdown
Its a country pub but should dogs be allowed in dining areas
On the positive side my complaint started a refund for the meal without too much difficulty

We were recommended this pub and were not disappointed. It combines the friendly atmosphere of a traditional 18 century pub with fantastic food - something seems to be hard to find in a pub these days. And great value too. I'm usually disappointed with the quality of Sunday roasts in a pub, but the beef was beautifully tender and rare, and the pork lovely and moist (both from local suppliers). Loads of crispy roast potatoes and a properly reduced gravy (not that thick gloopy stuff you so often get). Definitely the best Sunday roast around. With the likes of sticky toffee pudding, bread and butter pudding and toffee apple crumble or panna cotta for pudding we were spoilt for choice. On the basis of this we're going to go back for an evening meal very soon. There is a lovely walled garden out the back, so we can't wait for the summer! Walkers and dogs are welcome so we're going to combine it with a walk along the canal.

The pub has had a new landlord since September. Wayne and Verity now give youa warm welcome and the food is now excellent. Although not the cheapest fare, the guinefowl is worth going for as are their steaks and other delights from the menu. Try the sticky toffee pudding.
One can eat outside in the extensive garden or in the 18th century dining rooms.
The new tennants have transformed the place and we have now eaten there six times since early September.
It is recommended that you book at table in advance, especially at weekends.
