WOW !! what a change ! This pub has had terrible reviews in the past, its a lovely pub in perfect country surroundings with a fantastic view of the white horse hill. It has been unfortunate in the people who ran it .. until now !! Mark and Sally (new landlord / landlady)are perfect hosts and Mark is a well renowned chef and has turned the food from bland and tasteless to just great !!! The refurbishment is high quaility while keeping this pub a real country pub and not turning into a awful gastro pub. We both had the fish dishes which was more than impressive! We will definately be eating here again. 5 stars, keep up the good work!

I was extremely disappointed with my visit. On entering, the landlady was rude - she didn't greet us, and then when I was about to sit down, rudely said, "Can you not sit there, it's reserved" pointing to the next table along. We didn't stay long enough to order food, as we felt that this manner didn't deserve our custom. We drove on to a nearby pub instead. We won't be returning.

What a delightful change from my last visit in March of this year after which I vowed never to go back. A lovely welcome with a genuine smile, very warm, friendly, but professional service. I can only hope that this change will bring more and more people to the King and Queen at lunchtimes - the efforts of the young lady behind the bar and of the chef make it worthwhile. Only one request - please, could we have home made chips instead of frozen?!!!!!!! I will definitely be going back, so please keep the same lovely people and service.

When the King and Queen reopened after its much needed refurbishment my husband and I went to 'give it a try'. The barman was attentive, and knew his job, and the chef, Hugh, was excellent. The food was beautifully cooked, and the vegetables all fresh and nicely presented in a separate dish. When we returned the manager had changed, and so had the chef. So had the standard of the food. Today, yet another manager and presumably chef. We had to wait for nearly 5 minutes for the barman to appear from the back - he was 'chatting a supplier'. Our food eventually arrived, but was hardly spectular. Small portions, lumpy 'smooth' pate and a soggy salad, all on the same plate. We waited at the bar to pay, and after having called out more than once, left, leaving a £20 note on the bar, hoping that that was sufficient. I feel very sorrys for the owner who has put a lot of money into the refurbishment. It is a great shame that he can't get his staff to the same high quality. We will not be going back again very soon, which is a shame as it is mid way between my friend's and my home. What a shame!

Liked Barman Andy seemed a nice genuine guy, me and the wife had the special, very very bland and over cooked the bottle of ROBERTO ROSE 2007 wine we had was ok to start with but then got very tight and mean on the palate , service was the best well done Andy and his team , other reviewers say the pub has had a refit ,thought it would have looked better as the new owner is a builder not a very good advert for his company, the bill was for £42-00p so only paid half

Went to the King and Queen today for Sunday Lunch - Andy the manager and Lauren our waitress were both efficient and extremely welcoming. We are both vegetarians and loved the fact that we had more than one choice of veggy dishes. The food came out quickly and was beautifully cooked and presented - we couldn't have wished for anything better. We'll be going back. Many thanks to Andy and his staff, I hope they see this - Well done all of you.

It was very busy after a recent refit by the new owners, but the atmosphere and service were excellent. Well done to Hugh the chef and Andy the manager who were very friendly and inviting. A good range of local real ales and the food was excellent. Now one of the few pubs to do food Sunday and Monday nights... great! All in all a very warm and friendly place.

At the time of my visit the restaurant was clean and tidy with fresh flowers on all of the tables. Staff were friendly, and polite, service was excellent and the food (I had Roast Beef followed by a homemade Bread and Butter Pudding) was well presented and most enjoyable. In contrast to the previous reviewer, I had no concerns or complaints while I was there, tables were well presented and there were certainly no 'fly tapes' in evidence! I understand that the pub has recently been taken over by a new owner and it will be interesting to see what changes are made over the coming months! I for one will definately be going back again!

hi fancied nice lunch out, visit king and queen at longcot on thursday lunch, walked in hoover still out, ordered drinks then found table, table cloths creased and dirty at twelve fifteen, no one else in there, flies flying everywhere crawling over cutlery and table cloth, he took five minutes to print a menu. to top it all they had whats known as a fly tape hanging above our eating table. this had all dead flies hanging on it, didn't finish our drinks and didn't stop to find out what food was like i had seen enough. not one to visit.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the king and queen and thought that the food was lovely. The waitresses were amazing and did everything we could have asked for, we would like to give compliments to Helma and Martin for their excellent choice of waitresses. We will certainly be returning in the near future. i also think that for being so helpful, your waitresses should be given a pay rise..... yours sincerely.... mrs jones
