Went to the plough on saturday and was genuinly suprised at the quality of the place, you would think you were in wilmslow or alderly edge. The selection of beers is refreshingly different than most places, erdinger, leffe real ales all on draft. The food was excellent you really can tell it is freshly prepared, but you do have to wait for this, we had no problem with this as it was explained that weekends are busy and you are sitting in a great place with really good atmosphere having great drinks.. fabulous place cannot reccomend it enough!

Since the Plough re opened when we come up from London it has always been our favourite place to eat. On our visit in April it was fantastic, the food, presentation and service were faultless. We then visited on the 1oth September and it was so awful. Clearly not enough staff on the floor (even though the waiter was as delightful as ever) we had to wait nearly 30 minutes to order. We then waited nearly 40 minutes for the starter to arrive and the disaster commenced.. The main reason that anyone chooses to revisit a restaurant is because they enjoyed the food, received good service and expect it to be of the same calibre if they return. I started with the garlic mushrooms and upon arrival they were luke warm, looked like something out of a tin and the only flavour they had was salt, salt and more salt. Nearly one hour later my mushroom stroganoff arrived (which on all previous visits had been FANTASTIC) so the disappointment that my main course was the garlic mushrooms but with a little brandy through it and on a bed of rice oh and again salt, salt and more salt...two mouthfulls and I honestly could not eat it. Having worked in the hospitality industry for over twenty years when I had paid the bill of £109.00 I wanted to give the owners some feedback (I paid first as didnt want them to think I was looking for money off) It is hard to comrehend how shocked I was at the response I was met with. I asked the landlady if they had employed a new chef and was met with a blank look. I then said the food was not a patch on all our previous visits, again a blank look. The landlord then came over, on trying to explain to him I was met with an extremely arrogant dismisive response of 'well I taste all the food', the food is all freshly prepared', 'it wasnt salty that was the brandy'. He then turned on his heel and walked off. Such a shame as previously with the fantasic food and tasteful decor the Plough bought that something special to my hometown it's a pity that the owners did not have the social skills or customer service experience to deliver the same.

Three times I have visited this pub as it is my local and each time I have been asked to leave. Not because I was drunk or causing a disturbance i might add. The first time was because the landlady was tired and wished to close, the second because she had not seen her children all day and wanted to close again! and the third which i need to say is the best. We ordered our food and wine and once we were half way down the bottle of wine we were told that we would have to eat and drink up in 45 mins because they had a wedding party booked at 2pm, when we asked does that mean we need to leave the reply from the landlady was yes!!!! We were not told this information when ordering and had we have been we would have chosen to eat else where as we did not want to rush. Kidsgrove is in great need of a good local pub and when the Plough re-opened myself and my family were pleased as we thought this would be the case and unfortunately it is not. I would advise the landlady and landlord to take lessons on how to run a pub. They need to learn that 90% of advertising is by word of mouth and I will not be recomending this pub to anyone.
