Food poor. Cold main course. Sloppy service by surly waiter. Very expensive for what it is. My steak was ordered medium, I took one bite out of it and left it as it was so tough. My wife also left most of her food. Hard to believe that such poor service still exists out in the sticks. Did not like to complain as imagined us being burnt at a stake or similar. Have to agree with previous reviewer that it really is pretty dire. Shame as really nice premises.

Having booked 6 people for the Xmas menu about two weeks in advance, they did not have the menu as advertised and so instead of festive starters, we had to make do with rather poor prawn cocktails. Upon the main course arriving, the turkey must have been sliced from a Bernard Mathews rolled turkey and was cold. The vegetables were very poor and would not be acceptable at Motorway services. 5 out of the six of us did not bother with dessert. We just wanted to go home. The promised crackers and mince pies also failed to materialise. We were charged for drinks that we did not have. Despite a complaint to the management, they chose just to ignore us. DO NOT EAT HERE. They are quick enough to take your money with a smile but the food and service are appalling.

Having visited The Crown twice recently I can say that the homemade food is of the highest quality that I have tasted in a long while. I had the homemade steak and ale pie - very succulent and a large portion (almost too much) but completely devoured as the quality was superb - had to leave a few of the home cut chips. My partner had the sea bass and again cooked to perfection - we went on a Friday night and busy with all the tables in use but I have learnt to book in advance. I am willing to supply further information if required as I will be returning even though it is 15 miles each way to this excellent country pub.
