Pub smelt of dog, unpleasant staff and food disappointing. Ordered two non alcoholic drinks from non smiling man behind the bar - very expensive so left and went to the Allerton Court in Northallerton and had a great meal, no dog smell and great value for money!!!

Visited the Blacksmiths Arms on Tuesday 7th of February with my son and his girlfriend. All of us very hungry and cold. My son was desperate for some traditional food and had his heart set on a big pie. We were not disappointed. Huge steak and ale pie with the best chips we have ever had. Service with a huge smile and very warm welcome we sat near the fire while we ate. Chicken in BBQ sauce to die for!
We can recommend a visit.
The children were so impressed they have commented about it on Facebook, praise indeed.

After visiting this pub a lot over the last 12 years we will no longer be spending our money there.
We always enjoyed a meal here and felt it was excellent quality at a good price , now it is very poor quality at a price that does not reflect this , processed value range supermarket food served cooked to within an inch of its life by staff who seemed to show little interest to the customers .
We had a sunday lunch in the summer here and it was outstanding so perhaps its just the evening cook (not a chef) who is not doing the food justice .
When asked if we enjoyed the meal we informed the chap of the over cooked meal only to receive a shrug of shoulders and the bill which we hastily paid before leaving , what a shame as this was once a great place to eat .
Perhaps the cook was very busy however the empty car park and empty tables didnt show this to be the case ..
