The hygiene and treatment at the Glebe Hotel was so appalling that we were forced to find a new place to stay. Our initial problem was that our room was bug infested. My husband attempted before and after the hotel, to remove them but there were too many. When the reception was notified someone was sent up to check. They told us that the previous inhabitants of the room were fishermen and had Maggots, which must have hatched. In addition to this, and minor in comparison; our bathroom was without toiletries with the exception of hand soap, the fabric on the decorative bed was faded/marked giving it a dirty look, the fire detector in our room was so dirty that the dirt had congealed, the wallpaper was peeling, notably in our room and in the hallways and when coffee was ordered the staff brough us what appeared to be NesCafe under the pretense of being “filter coffee”. When I entered the unattended Leisure area I was not given a towel or welcomed, so I went into the pool. Five minutes later I was accosted by the unfriendly attendant, demanding a room number. The pool was dirty with things floating in it and oil slick on the surface. The roof and walls were not clean with signs of mould or lime scale throughout. The tile print Linoleum around inside the pool was also peeling back and mouldy. Concerned about the hygiene of the pool I went to the Steam room at 6pm. It was dirty with unidentified dirt on both the wall and seat with the appearance some kind of bodily fluid or mud. When I reported this to reception the attendant was sent to check it. She admitted that it needed cleaning and that she had looked in there at 3pm when she arrived but not since then. In the end we were shown to numerous inferior rooms, all smaller, some claustrophobically so and none with the same view, some without a view at all. The hotel at no time offered any form of consolation with exception of a verbal apology. They claimed none of it was their fault, they had tried twice to remove the bugs and could not. Our alternatives were to either take an inferior room or live with the flies. As regular travellers we understand that there are sometimes glitches but these can often be overcome by good customer care. The over all hygiene of the hotel was offensive and the service equally so. By 7pm it was obvious that the hotel had no intention of making an effort to assuage us or make amends so we checked out .
