Having booked a ‘Two Night, Half-board Special Offer’ online, I was shocked to learn on arrival that the hotel had on their record that we were staying one night only. After the reception initially agreed to honour the ‘Two Night, Half-board Special Offer’, as it was clearly stated on the booking information (see attached), they then went back on their word and wanted me to pay extra for a second night. After long discussions with the hotel reception and booking manager, nothing was resolved and I agreed to leave after one night, to save any more embarrassment to myself or my partner (whose birthday present this break was).
I was disappointed by the service I received, I felt the individuals were quite discourteous and did not offer me any apology or compensation for the awkwardness and inconvenience this mix up caused us. We were planning on going to the theatre on the second night and this had to be cancelled. I am perplexed as to how a ‘Two Night, Half-board Special Offer’ could ever be booked for one night only.
We must say the room we had for the night and the dinner that evening were excellent, however we were unfortunately further let down by the leisure facilities on offer. They certainly did not seem to be of the same calibre as the rest of the hotel. The lockers did not work, the floors in the changing room were covered in mud and the steam room had hair all over the walls.
The building, grounds, food and rooms are exceptional but we were let down by cleanliness and service.

We recently stayed at Walton Hall Hotel in Warwickshire which was truly beautiful. We all realise that the hotel is going through refurbishment (which hopefully will not spoil the lovely old ambiance), but the service could have been better. Breakfast in particular was a "cardboard" breakfast. A little personal touch would have made all the difference and have staff that actually spoke English would also have been good. Where service is concerned its the little things that make or break a good hotel.
The hotel situation was perfect long with the wedding which was laid on - but the quality of the service needs attention.
