I used to work in Warbecks around 11 years ago, and have to say that all of my family and friends loved it as a good place for food and at fantastic prices. The atmosphere was fantastic in previous years. I think the only good thing about my current visit was that the decor hadn't changed, and it has been kept original as possible. Where to start! I am not normally critical! I am not too sure if the change in ownership is recent, but it is certainly not for the better. Previously Kevin Watters was the owner, and ran the restaurant to a tee, it was end to end perfection. Everyone was attended to in good time, and always felt special. The menu has not changed too much, but there are more than a few favourites missing from it, for example...... Chicken Stroganoff, fresh bread for all tables. The salad bar and sweet table used to be packed with lots to choose from, and it was fantastic. The current owners also need to take a BIG look at their portion sizes. I ordered the salmon, which, to give credit where it's due, tasted excellent, however there were only around 12 fries on the plate with it. I opted for the salad bar instead if vegetables, but only had a choice of around 6 salad dishes, which were the bog standard lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber etc etc! Not great! My Dad had a steak, asked to be cooked well done (typical tasteless pallet!) and it was a little rare on the inside, he asked not to have the cauli as veg, and more carrots to make up for it. No exaggeration there was only 6 carrots on the plate. Dad left feeling hungry, and went home and had a roast dinner! My Partner had a steak, and nothing to complain about there, other than the size of the portion, the same with my Dad's friend. Very very disappointed with the way this restaurant has gone down in the previous few years. Can I suggest the new owners took this place on thinking that they could continue on it's good name, but have failed? It would appear they have little experience running restaurants/pubs. I am in the trade in the South, and originally from Fife, perhaps travelling is my downfall, because I expect more, but my Dad is local, and does not go out much, even he was left very bitterly disappointed - especially as he had eaten there before. Sorry to say, we won't be going back, which is a shame, because this place used to have exactly what I looked for in a restaurant!
