We stopped at the sospan for a quick bacon roll before our days walking in the hills. It was spot on.yum!

I recently stopped over for a night in Dolgellau and decided to eat in the evening at the Sospan. My companion and I ordered a steak in a mustard sauce and seabass, which came with a tomato sauce. I can honestly say that it was the most delicious and succulent meal I have ever tasted. The steak was very tender, the fish was cooked to perfection and both sauces complimented the dinner beautifully. The vegetables were hot, well cooked and nicely presented. I asked for the compliments to be passed to the chef.

The best thing about our meal was the past-its-sell-by-date-trout (it could well have been from the bargain bucket at the local supermarket)- it made the wine almost, but not quite, appear drinkable. My course of saddle of Welsh lamb, from the specials board, was unbelievable - £16 for the most dreadful piece of meat I have ever tasted. Did we complain? - well half heartedy. You can't really let rip at a couple of really pleasant kids doing a great job of serving this rubbish, something I'm sure the management know too well. We didn't hang about for the sweets as we already felt well and truly mugged

The restaurant is in an interesting building having been an old courthouse and jail. Some of the dishes were well cooked however several of our party had pitifully tiny portions. One main course, a 'tower' of aubergine, redpepper, red onion and goats cheese was so minute that the expressions of horror would undoubtedly have been registered by the waiter. Unfortunately he was no more than twelve. The white wine we wanted was not available chilled. We decided to abandon the meal before pudding and coffee as our spirit was broken.
